SalesPad Marine Alternative: When to Stay on Dynamics GP and When to Move

SalesPad Marine is a niche product. If you're reading this, you're likely a multi-location boat-dealer group running Microsoft Dynamics GP with SalesPad layered on top — a relatively small but real install base, mostly in the Northeast and Great Lakes region. The platform works, but it ages out a little more every year, and Microsoft's GP roadmap has shifted toward Business Central in ways that affect your long-term planning.

This piece is for the dealer-group CTO or controller looking at the GP modernization horizon and wondering what to do about the marine DMS layer. We'll cover the realistic alternatives, the migration realities (which are slightly different from a DockMaster migration), and the cases where staying makes sense.

Why dealers leave SalesPad Marine

The reasons are usually one of these:

  1. Microsoft GP end-of-life pressure. Microsoft has been signaling a transition to Business Central for years. Some dealers are getting ahead of it; some are waiting; some are being pushed by their accounting partners.
  2. GP shell aging out. The UI feels its age. New employees ramp slowly. Tenured employees increasingly grumble.
  3. Web and mobile gaps. Same story as the rest of Gen-1 marine DMS — public website integration is batch-driven, mobile is weak.
  4. AI is absent. Not on roadmap, not in product, not part of the strategy.
  5. Internal IT cost. SalesPad on GP requires either an in-house IT team or a contracted Dynamics partner. Both compound.

The alternatives we'd actually consider

BoaterOS

BoaterOS is cloud-native, AI-augmented, and includes the public website. For a SalesPad customer, the architectural shift is significant — from desktop-app-on-Dynamics to a true SaaS platform. The benefits are the standard Gen-2 wins: real-time syndication, working mobile, included AI, per-dealership pricing.

Specific to SalesPad customers: we've done two SalesPad → BoaterOS migrations and have learned the GP-extraction workflow. We work with your IT or Dynamics partner to extract the marine data while leaving GP financial structures undisturbed if you want to retain GP for accounting (some dealers do; some replace GP with QuickBooks Online or Business Central simultaneously).

Stay on SalesPad and migrate GP only

If your accounting team is committed to GP and the marine DMS pain isn't acute, you can stay on SalesPad and migrate GP to Business Central separately. This buys you 18–36 months. SalesPad's compatibility with Business Central is reasonable.

Migrate GP to Business Central + add a separate marine DMS

A two-step path: replace GP with Business Central for accounting, and add a marine-vertical DMS (BoaterOS, or another Gen-2 vendor) for the dealer operations. This is the path some larger groups take when the dealer-side and accounting-side timelines don't align.

Migrate to a different Gen-1 marine DMS (not recommended)

DockMaster, IDS Astra, or Lightspeed are all options. None of them connect well to GP. We don't see this happening in 2026 — if you're moving off SalesPad, you typically aren't going laterally.

The SalesPad → BoaterOS migration

The migration is the DockMaster playbook with a few GP-specific differences.

Week 1 — discovery includes coordinating with your Dynamics partner or in-house IT. We extract the marine objects (customers, hulls, work orders, deal jackets) while documenting the GP financial structures we'll need to keep in sync if you're retaining GP.

Week 2 — schema mapping. SalesPad marine objects map to BoaterOS objects. The customer-table translation is generally cleaner than the IDS Astra household-merge case but more complex than DockMaster.

Weeks 3–6 — same as the DockMaster playbook: parallel run, website cut, staff training, full cut.

One key decision: during week 1, you and your IT decide whether GP stays as the financial backend (with BoaterOS sending journal entries) or whether you simultaneously migrate GP to QuickBooks Online or Business Central. The first option is faster; the second is a clean break. Both work.

What survives the migration

What changes

What doesn't change

What it costs

The Marina tier ($18,500/mo, up to 3 locations, ≤500 hulls) covers most SalesPad installations. The Fleet tier (custom) covers larger multi-brand groups. Migration is included.

If you keep GP for accounting, there's no GP cost change on our side. You continue paying Microsoft, and we send the GP journal entries via API.

If you migrate off GP simultaneously, the BoaterOS migration includes the marine side; the GP migration is a separate workstream typically run by your Dynamics partner.

When to stay on SalesPad

Honest cases:

When to move

What to do this quarter

  1. Map your dealer-side software stack: SalesPad, GP, website agency, CRM, email, F&I tooling, integration middleware. Add up all-in monthly cost.
  2. Talk to your Dynamics partner about GP's roadmap. Get an honest answer.
  3. Demo BoaterOS. Run your real marine workflows.
  4. Decide: keep GP, replace GP, or run both during transition.
  5. Book a 30-minute call to walk through the GP-extraction migration specifics.

The SalesPad customer base is small, but the dealers who've moved have been measurably happier 90 days post-cut. The dealers who stayed had specific, defensible reasons. Find your reason and act on it deliberately.
